Over 30,000 people donate to UNICEF campaign Together for Every Child
“For every child, happiness means just a few simple things: to live with their loved ones, to be loved, encouraged and protected, to go to school, to have friends. For children with disabilities, such things are often just dreams. In this campaign we set out to support these children so that their dreams may come true: they should lead, in as much as it is possible, a normal life. We would like to thank all of you who supported this campaign and all of you who donated,” said Edmond McLoughney, UNICEF Representative in Romania.
In partnership with TVR, Romania’s public broadcaster, UNICEF launched the campaign Together for Every Child on 10 June 2011, during the TVR1 show Once in a Lifetime, hosted by Iuliana Tudor. Over the course of three episodes, viewers were introduced to the cases of nine children with mental and physical disabilities who have been helped to enjoy their right to a normal life. Over 30,000 people were moved by their stories and donated to help as many Romanian children with disabilities as possible get specialist help.
The 60,000 Euro raised through this campaign will help children with mental and physical disabilities become integrated into the community and provide them with the appropriate assistance to give them a decent standard of living.
Many celebrities supported the Together for Every Child campaign by taking part in the TVR1 show, including Princess Lia, Elena Tudor, General Director for Child Protection, Ministry of Labor, Family and Social Protection, Nicola, Olimpia Panciu, Aurel Țicleanu, Marina Scupra and Narcis Iustin Ianau, the famous teenage countertenor. Andreea Marin Bănică, UNICEF Romania Goodwill Ambassador, also made an appeal to viewers to donate.
