Create a Doll, Help a Child

Bucharest, October 9, 2008 – Dolls created by Romanian children and by local and international fashion designers were auctioned during the launch of the Pampers-UNICEF “One Pack = One Vaccine” campaign, at Hotel Sofitel.

The dolls are part of the UNICEF “Create a Doll – Help a Child” project. The funds raised will help with the transformation of the Oradea maternity hospital into a “Baby Friendly Hospital” – a friendly place where the mother and the baby stay together right from birth and where mothers receive counselling about the care of the baby and about breastfeeding and its benefits for the newborn.

The 25 dolls on auction were selected from nearly 1,000 dolls submitted to UNICEF from all over the country. This year’s “Create a Doll – Help a Child” project was also supported by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Research and by Mrs. Doina Levintza.

Besides the dolls auctioned, another 300 dolls were displayed for sale at the launch event.

During the event, UNICEF raised a total of Euro 31,000, from the auction and sale of dolls and from the contribution of Pampers. The bidding for each doll started at RON 200. The highest price was for Sofia, by the designer Andreea Tincu from Iaşi, which fetched RON 2000.

Among the Romanian designers who created dolls, are: Ludmila Corlateanu, Smaranda Almasan, Andra Clitan, Andreea Tincu, Florenta Criveanu, Claudia Castrase, Ana-Maria Lungu, Adelina Ivan, Mirela Diaconu, Magdalena Ghencea, Irina Marinescu Dorin Negrau, Razvan Ciobanu, Laura Lazar, Adelina Ivan, Mihaela Glavan şi artistele CareCutare.
