UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors
Gheorghe Hagi’s footballing career is unparalleled by any other Romanian. Named Romania’s best footballer of the 20th century, the former national team captain excelled with such high-profile European clubs as FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Galatasaray. We look forward to seeing Hagi score more goals for children in his new role as National Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF Romania.

Introduction
UNICEF Romania Representative Edmond McLoughney introduces this issue of Unite for Children. The main focus is Early Childhood Development, and how Romania’s approach shows that it is taking the issue seriously.

The Importance of Early Childhood Development
Fully understanding that the development of a child’s brain begins soon after the child is conceived – and the development of a child the day he or she is born – has been an evolving process. In including ECD in the general curriculum, Romania is showing that its education policy advisers are more progressively informed than many others.

'Romania takes roots' campaign
A spectacular evening for fundraising as Romanians opened their hearts and gave generously to flood victims in a telethon organized by Realitatea TV and UNICEF.

UNICEF Romania in action
As summer floods devastated the lives of thousands of Romanians, claiming five deaths, dispersing livestock, ruining houses, and submerging crops, teams comprising UNICEF partners and volunteers swung into action by providing support, delivering much needed aid and raising the spirits of victims throughout the affected areas.
