Roma Children Education
In Brief
UNICEF has actively pursued the development of the policy framework for the improvement of the situation of Roma children. Its interventions supported policy development and capacity building in the education system to stimulate access of Roma children to education. UNICEF also contributed to enhancing the capacity of Roma non-governmental organisations active in education, child health, and protection, and assisted in promoting improved access, quality and availability to social services for Roma children and families.
Main results
The models developed with UNICEF support in the area of Roma children education have been partly expanded. The measured progress recommends these models for replication in Southeastern European countries facing similar challenges with Roma children education or the integration of these children into mainstream society.
