The National Parenting Education Programme in Pre-school Education was initiated in 2001, aiming to help parents improve their child rearing knowledge and skills. Research on parenting, which resulted in the 2006 Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices (KAP) study in Romania, the first national level baseline research, showed that parents lack a systemic approach, that knowledge and practices were outdated and in some cases unconducive to the development of the child.

The objectives of the National Parenting Education Programme in Pre-school Education are:

  • to promote the development of a good relationship between parents and children as a fundamental basis for the harmonious and healthy development of the child;
  • to enhance early stimulation/education;
  • to prevent child behaviour prob lems and a negative spiral which can be generated by such problems.
