
Elhadj As Sy is the Director of UNICEF’s Regional Office for Eastern and Southern Africa.
Mr. As has more than 20 years of experience in the civil service. Before joining UNICEF, he served as Director of Partnerships and External Relations and Deputy Executive Director a.i. with UNAIDS. He has also worked on health issues for the United Nations Development Programme in New York, the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria in Geneva, and Environment and Development Action in the Third World in Dakar, Senegal.
A national of Senegal, Mr. As holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts and Human Sciences from the University of Dakar as well as a Master’s Degree in Arts and Germanistik and a fellowship for doctoral research in Human and Social Sciences from the University of Graz, Austria.
