Steven Allen has been the Regional Director for Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States since 2009. He served as UNICEF Special Representative for the Balkans from 1998 to 2002, where he led and managed UNICEF’s advocacy and programme operations in countries of former Yugoslavia, as well as Albania, during 1999 Kosovo crisis.
Mr. Allen has served as the Director of UNICEF’s Division of Human Resources as well as UNICEF Representative for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, and Indonesia. Since joining UNICEF in 1977, he has also worked in the UNICEF offices of Sudan, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Iraq.
Mr. Allen is a national of the United Kingdom. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics and Politics from the London School of Economics and a Master of Science Degree in Medical Demography from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 1993.
