Training of Dominican Republic technicians on managing the new DevInfo version.Santo Domingo, June 8th,2011.- Technicians of the Regional Office of the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) for Latin America and the Caribbean, trained 24 national specialists in the use and management of the technology database, DevInfo, version 6.0 The training workshop took place at the INDOTEL Headquarters in Santo Domingo from June1st- 3rd and featured the participation of staff members of the National Childhood Council (CONANI), INDOTEL and the National Statistics Bureau. “The intention is to create compatible database systems between organizations, which can be worked jointly. From Panama we provide support to all Latin America and Caribbean countries, featuring UNICEF’s intervention” explained Ms. Ruth Vejas-Quiroz, of the DevInfoLAC regional group. Facilitators and participating technicians in the workshop, managed to develop a database on population information, with their estimation to 2010, developed by the National Population and Family Council (*Consejo Nacional de Población y Familia (CONAPOFA). “The idea is to train them so they can apply the acquired skills… the participants have learned the administrator and user modules and are pondering the publishing of this information on-line” said Silvino Herrera, of the UNICEF Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, during the workshop.
Both Vejas- Quiroz as Herrera, worked in the group training workshop during its three day duration, in which also was developed a database featuring information managed by INDOTEL. UNICEF supports CONANI in the development of an information system on infancy, which will be publicly available on the web. DevInfo DevInfo is a database system, approved in 2004 by the United Nations for the monitoring of the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs). Originally it was used for the organization, administration and monitoring of all infancy-related indicators. DevInfo is distributed for free among all interested organizations, both governmental as well as civil society.
