In too many countries an offical conspiracy of silence about AIDS has denied people information that could have saved lives. We must empower young people to protect themselves through information and a supportive social environment that reduces their vulnerability to infection.
Although most young people become healthy and productive adults, many do not. Behaviors begun in adolescence can critically shape a life's course as well as the future of a whole society. Some behaviors cause immediate danger; others, like a time bomb, can cause damage years later without warning.
