- 1986 - UNICEF commences work in Papua New Guinea, as a sub office of the Philippines

- 1993 - Papua New Guinea ratifies the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
- 1998 - The Country Office begins function
- 2002 - The first CRC Report submitted by the government
- 2003 - Child Friendly School Initiative commences
- 2003 - Supplemental Immunization Days Activities initiated
- 2003 - First Juvenile Court opens
- 2004 - National Birth Registration Campaign launched
- 2004 - Universal Children’s Day celebrated nationally for the first time with government
co-ordination
