Evelyn, Nigeria

Nigeria, 2015: “They have taken everything,” says Evelyn, whose hometown was attacked by Boko Haram amid violence threatening north-eastern Nigeria, and the border regions in Cameroon, Chad and the Niger. She grabbed her daughter, Rose, 1, and hid in the mountains for a week before being reunited with her son, Wisdom, 5. The three survived on berries and swamp water and now live in a displacement camp. “I don’t know if he is alive or dead,” Evelyn says of her husband, who remains missing.
