Mali fights malaria

Mali, 2012: Malaria is both preventable and curable. Here, children queue for a UNICEF-supported malnutrition and malaria screening, in Manadougou Village in Ouélessébougou District. World Malaria Day, held on 25 April each year, celebrates global efforts against the deadly disease. Since 2000, the global malaria mortality rate has declined by 42 per cent. But the disease remains a serious public health problem – causing 627 000 deaths in 2012, mostly among African children.
