February 2011: In late 2010, a deadly polio outbreak struck the Republic of the Congo. Some 64 cases have been confirmed, and over 300 cases of paralysis and 179 deaths are suspected to be polio-related. Mass immunizations are fighting the epidemic, part of a regional resurgence of the disease.
May 2013: Throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, the number of children living in institutions is conservatively estimated at 240,000.
March 2013: An October 2012 immunization campaign against measles and rubella in Mongolia reached over 500,000 children.
