Measuring courage

“Minsan ang kagitingan ay wala sa bigat ng pinapasan;
Sa pagsuko't pagharap ng kabiguan.”
(Courage, sometimes, is not measured by the weight of a burden,
it is judged by whether one surrendered to failure or faced it head on.”

- “Bulong” by Kitchie Nadal

When I first heard these two lines, I was immediately struck. But it was only this day that I was able to validate them.

The starting point: our proposed big project—the ADMU Blue Eagles vs. the DLSU Green Archers basketball game—remained a proposal for almost a week because of the intricacy of communication lines. Despite this work, the DLSU Green Archers will not be able to make it on our proposed date.

The second step: creating a new project. We did create one but, alas, it seemed contradictory to our advocacy campaign. The second proposed project was a party targeting young people like us. What is a party in a bar though without liquor? Liquor and UNICEF don’t get on well.

FREEZE.
DEAD SILENCE.

A twinkle in the darkness, the birth of a new project. If we had looked the other way or simply stopped looking for a new project, I don’t know what would have happened to us; all I know is that, we would be big disappointments. The point is sometimes courage is managing to stand up after a fall—just like we did.
