P&G has supported hygiene promotion, including hand washing, in the schools of Sultan Kudarat and Bukidnon

Procter & Gamble is a Fortune 500 multinational manufacturer of products that range from personal care items, household cleaning supplies, laundry detergents, to disposable diapers.

Over 20 million Filipinos have no access to proper sanitation facilities, resulting in illness or death from disease and malnutrition. With personal and household care being at the core of Procter & Gamble’s business, UNICEF embarked on a strategic partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and Department of Health (DOH) to focus on the promotion of handwashing and toothbrushing in schools.

Partnership milestones

  • In 2008, P&G supported the promotion of hygiene in the underserved schools of Sultan Kudarat and Bukidnon
  • Over 3,000 children from 10 public schools in those areas now have access to improved water and sanitation facilities
  • P&G supports DepEd, DOH and UNICEF to annually promote October 15 as Global Handwashing Day
