The findings: General situation
From an initial list of 190 children, 95 were reached. Most of these children were aged 6 to 11 years.
Of the 95 participants in the study, three children were found to be infected with HIV. Forty children have lost one or both parents. While 56 of them live with at least one parent. None of the children whose parents died of HIV and AIDS live in an institution.
All children come from low-income families, and live in depressed areas. Many have limited access to basic services like education, community support, and health care.
These children carry a bigger burden than other children from their neighborhood, as they suffer from the absence of parents because of HIV and AIDS, without understanding why.
