Mother learns to read and more...
More mothers deserve to be educated and empowered. Help us to teach them how. An open letter from Mr. Gary Valenciano, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador: Dear friend, I have had the chance to visit UNICEF-assisted projects in the Mt. Province last June 2003. I met some women who benefited from the Mothers Literacy Project. I believe that with your support, the project can help empower women to be the best that they can be --- as mothers, wives, and community leaders. Join us and together let’s support the Mothers Literacy Project by donating to UNICEF. Thank you. Gary Valenciano More than just the ABC's and the 123's Education is critical to the lives of many women and children. But in many parts of the Philippines, women lack certain skills and knowledge necessary for basic day-to-day tasks. Some do not even know how to read and write. This leads to improper treatment of illnesses of children and consequently to poor nutrition and ill health. The Mothers Literacy Project provides mothers with the essential knowledge and skills for proper child rearing. Working with local government units, UNICEF funds the training of volunteers who become literacy teachers. These volunteers are from the community itself. Many more mothers need our help.
