Leo Messi Activity Highlights

2013 • October • UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Leo Messi has invited his friends and fans around the world to join in celebrating the birthday of his son Thiago, who will be one year old on Saturday, 2 November. UNICEF has created a web application called “Leo Messi and Thiago celebrate life”, which will be available until November 4. Through this application, everyone can join Leo’s commitment to help children of the world grow up with the same kind of opportunities. (Press Release)

2013 • August • FC Barcelona stars Leo Messi and Jose Manuel Pinto took time off from their team tour schedule in Thailand to talk and play football with children and youth with intellectual disabilities, an event aimed at promoting social inclusion for young people living with disabilities. 2010 • December • Leo Messi responded to questions asked by children from twelve schools in Spain and Argentina. The children, who had earlier learned about their right to sport and play, as stated in the Convention on the Rights of the Child, prepared questions that they asked Messi. While the children in Argentina asked their questions through video, those in Spain had the opportunity to meet with Messi himself in the facilities of Football Club Barcelona at Camp Nou in Barcelona. (Newsline)

2010 • June • Leo Messi participated in the HIV/AIDS ‘Brothers for Life,’ a mass-media HIV prevention campaign targeting South African men.  Many world-class sports personalities signed on as supporters. (Newsline)

2010 • May • In Barcelona, Spain, Leo Messi recorded a Public Service Announcement about football and equity for use by UNICEF National Committees and Country Offices around the World Cup. (Newsline)

2010 • May • In Barcelona, Spain, Leo Messi was featured in a TV and SMS awareness campaign by UNICEF Spain to increase public awareness of the alliance between UNICEF and FC Barcelona with the aim to increasing donor pledge support to UNICEF Spain.

2010 • April • Leo Messi contributed a message to Soccer Aid 2010 organized by the UK Committee for UNICEF. 

2009 • November • In Barcelona, Spain, Leo Messi participated in the launch of the national campaign “AIDS is also a children’s issue”. 

2009 • August • During the FC Barcelona Club’s summer tour in Seattle, USA, Leo Messi attended a fundraising event  in support of the US Fund for UNICEF and Major League Soccer kick-off partnership to save children's lives.

2008 • November • At the Impact Art 2009 event in Argentina, Leo Messi created and signed an artwork for auction for UNICEF.
