CIO-100, 2004: UNICEF receives award for use of information technology, for third consecutive year

NEW YORK, 28 September 2004 - For the third straight year, UNICEF has received the prestigious CIO-100 Award in recognition of its achievements in the use of information technology. CIO magazine is a leading publication in the information technology industry.
“The role of technology has fundamentally transformed how UNICEF works today. There is not a single element of UNICEF that has not been touched by technology,” says the Director of UNICEF’s IT Division André Spatz.

This year, CIO magazine selected 100 companies that exemplify leadership and innovation in increasing agility within an organization. Agile organizations are those that are ready to respond quickly to changing business conditions. Among the many aspects considered are: flexible staffing models, sourcing strategies, modular architecture, open-ended technology and nimble governance along with project management structures.

The process for choosing the CIO-100 winners is systematic and very competitive. A new theme is chosen every year to reflect CIO magazine’s assessments of current trends and of their readers’ needs. Upon selection of the year’s theme, CIO then develops an online application enabling participating organizations to highlight certain achievements that pertain to the chosen theme. The 100 winners are revealed in the magazine’s August issue.

Last year’s theme was ‘Resourcefulness’, while ‘Integration’ was the theme for the year 2002. UNICEF was among the winners for both years.

Other winners this year include Dell, Hewlett-Packard, The New York Times, FedEx and DHL Express. Read the full list on cio.com (external link).
