Overview: [view & print session activities ]
Objectives: At the end of this introductory session, participants should be able to:
- Recognise the particular vulnerabilities of displaced children and women in emergencies
- Apply the Refugee Convention and the Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement in practical situations
- Explain UNICEF’s role in relation to displaced children and families
Key Messages:
- UNICEF has responsibility/mission/mandate for all children, everywhere – including refugee and IDP children
- Refugees and internally displaced persons face discrimination, and particular risks and vulnerabilities by virtue of the fact that they have been forced to flee their homes, communities, and in the case of refugees, their countries
- The Refugee Convention and Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement provide a normative framework for refugees and IDPs specifically
- It is particularly important for UNICEF to work with its UN and NGO partners, especially with UNHCR, OCHA and the Emergency Relief Coordinator
