Welcome to A Principled Approach to Humanitarian Action (PATH)

Complex emergencies present acute challenges for all humanitarian workers. We, UNICEF and its partners, are constantly faced with ethical dilemmas that arise in every crisis - dilemmas that make it hard to protect and advocate for the rights of children. How do we negotiate humanitarian access? Should we negotiate with armed groups? How can we ensure the participation of affected populations in humanitarian action? How can we effectively coordinate emergencies amongst all humanitarian actors?

The PATH training programme aims to equip humanitarian workers with the knowledge and practical know-how to face these challenges and better protect children affected by humanitarian crises. By following the PATH, you will learn how to respect humanitarian principles and apply international legal standards in conflict situations. The 3-day PATH training programme is complemented by the PATH self-directed e-learning course that humanitarian workers can complete in their own time.

Good luck on your PATH!
