The strength of the PATH training programme is due to the fact that it has been created with the inputs of many different UNICEF, UN and NGO partners. This programme is the result of many months of interviews and design work, pilot workshops, and the contributions of UNICEF staff at headquarters and in the field. So many people have contributed to this training programme that it is not possible to thank everyone individually but a number of people deserve special mention.

 

The PATH training programme was coordinated by Jenni Wolfson from the Organizational Learning and Development Section in the Division of Human Resources, and Geeta Narayan from the Humanitarian Policy Unit in the Office of Emergency Programmes. They have led this project from its inception to completion, including the technical inputs, instructional design, pilot testing and final production.

 

Pernille Ironside was instrumental in contributing to the development of materials for this training programme, particularly with regard to their legal accuracy. Rebecca Phillips also contributed to shaping the final programme with her innovative instructional design skills.

 

UNICEF staff in NYHQ, Regional and Country Offices have provided valuable feedback in pilot testing and training of trainers workshops, and have influenced the programme from all angles.

 

Some materials for this programme were adapted from existing training programmes, including the Sphere Project training programme and the Inter-Agency Standing Committee's Training Programme on Internally Displaced Persons . Additional materials were taken from the website of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

 

Jennifer Keane and Sophie Bartholomew have spent countless hours on the layout and production of this training programme.

 

Steven Bornholtz (Design Unit, DOC) who assisted in the design of the materials.

 

This training programme was developed with financial support from the UK Department of International Development (Conflict and Humanitarian Affairs Department/CHAD).

 

The training content will evolve as the nature of protecting and assisting children and women affected by conflict evolves. New international legal standards will emerge and new guidance on humanitarian policy issues will be forthcoming. The constructive inputs of all programme trainers, participants, and resource persons will continue to be sought and appreciated.
