UNICEF works with the Federal Ministry of Education, Provincial Education Departments, International NGOs, NGOs and other UN agencies to ensure that every girl and boy completes a quality primary education.
Along with its partners UNICEF endeavours to develop and implement policies, procedures and mechanisms to:
- Reduce the number of girls out-of-school by at least 30 percent
- Promote effective, high quality learning in schools that are child-friendly and attentive to the needs of girls and boys alike
Ministry of Education
Ministry of Education works for the development and coordination of national policies, plans and programs in education, development of curricula. It works for the promotion of special studies designed to identify problems of national integrity and measures best calculated to protect the mainsprings of ideological inspiration and develop national cohesion.

Society for Community Support and Primary Education (SCSPEB)
The Society for Community Support for Primary Education in Balochistan (SCSPEB), commonly known as SCSPEB or Society, is an NGO, established in 1992 under the Societies Act 1860. It is a service organization, which works through contracts with Government, International/National funding and supporting agencies. SCSPEB collaborated with UNICEF for mapping out middle schooling opportunities for primary pass girls at locations in four districts of Balochistan where there are no middle schools for girls.
Basic Education and Employable Skill Knowledge (BEST)
BEST (Basic Education and Employable Skill Training) is a non-profit development oriented organization registered with the Social Welfare Department, Government of NWFP and working as an Implementing Partner of UNHCR, UNICEF, Rotary International, National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) and National Education Foundation (NEF) for Afghan Refugees and local population in NWFP, FATA and Punjab. BEST is working with UNICEF for capacity enhancement of the district education department in Swabi district especially in the area of social mobilization and improved governance.
Innovative Development Organisation (IDO)
IDO is a “non-for-profit”, non-political, non-ethnical, non-governmental registered organization. IDO has been working in Balochistan since 1999 in the field of Governance, Health, Gender and Development, Education and Information & Communication Technologies for Development (ICTD). IDO is collaborating with UNICEF in six districts of Balochistan to develop district profiles and to carry out baseline studies for the Primary Education Support Programme to Reduce the Gender Gap and Promote Gender Equality in Education in Pakistan.
Sarhad Rural Support Program (SRSP)
SRSP’s vision is Poverty reduction and promoting sustainable means of livelihood in rural NWFP. The purpose of initiation of SRSP is aimed at facilitating the rural populace in NWFP for alleviating poverty in the rural communities. SRSP is working with UNICEF for capacity enhancement of the district education department in Upper Dir district of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) especially in the area of social mobilization and improved governance.
Indus Resource Centre (IRC)
Indus Resource Centre is a civil society organisation aimed at mainstreaming the marginalised communities of rural Sindh in Pakistan. At the heart of everything we do is the desire for Human and Institutional Development. The three key programmes we focus on are Participatory Governance, Education & Literacy, and Economic Initiatives. UNICEF has been working with the IRC to promote Girls' Education in Khairpur District since 2004 with focus on retention, quality as well as enrolement.
Youth Resource Centre (YRC)
YRC is collaborating with UNICEF in Nowshera district of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) under the Primary Education Support Programme to develop a district profile and set up baselines as well as to enhance the capacity of the district education department. The programme also aims to reduce the gender gap and promote gender equality in education.
