Children of Pakistan UNICEF’s commitment to children’s survival has been central to its mission since the organization’s establishment 60 years ago. In Pakistan, UNICEF has worked for child survival since the country’s inception in 1947. Progress during these years has been remarkable, and millions of children have been saved. Although infant and child mortality rates in Pakistan have declined since the 1990s, they are still unacceptably high. One in twelve babies die in their first year of life. More than a third of young children are chronically malnourished. Half of all children under one have never been immunised and remain unprotected from vaccine preventable diseases. |
