Child Protection

Every adult bears the responsibility of protecting children from harm. UNICEF Pacific helps create a protective environment for children, where children are safe and protected from violence, abuse and exploitation in their homes, schools and their communities. The Child Protection programme carries out a range of activities and services that prevent and create systems to respond to violence, exploitation and abuse of children and ensure justice for all children. The Child Protection programme works closely in partnership with government stakeholders as well as other bilateral and multilateral agencies to fully integrate children’s protection in the national development agenda of Pacific Island Countries.

The programme’s focus is on:

Making families and communities the “First Line of Defence” for children’s protection
Improving social services, care and protection of children
Strengthening legal frameworks for the protection of children

The targeted results are:

Children grow up in home and community environments that are increasingly free from violence, abuse and exploitation in selected geographical areasChildren are better protected against violence, abuse and exploitation through well informed and coordinated child protection social services that also effectively assist children and their families who are survivors of violence and abuse Children are better protected as victims, offenders and witnesses of crimes by strong legislation
