Communication for Development Officer – KIRIBATI (NO-2 level) (Fixed Term Appointment)
UNICEF is seeking to employ a person who under the general supervision of the Chief of Field Office will assists in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of communication for development to support UNICEF’s mission in Kiribati.
Contributes to the development and coordination of communication for development strategies, plans and initiatives.
Assists in identifying, mapping and building alliances and partnerships with civil society organisations, media, faith-based organisations, community leaders, and other organised groups at national and community level.
Participates in the design, development and pre-testing of culturally appropriate communication materials and activities.
Follows up on the production and adaptation of multi-media materials and quality assures all aspects of media production in accordance with available guidelines.
Monitors the appropriate and timely dissemination of communication materials activities to targeted areas and communication participants, and participates in the evaluation of their impact.
Monitors, analyses and reports on implementation and impact of communication for development activities by undertaking frequent field visits and consult targeted communication participants, programme counterparts and other stakeholders.
Requirements and Qualifications
University degree in communication, development, or social/behavioural sciences (sociology, anthropology, psychology, health and education.
Two years professional work experience in social development, preferably in the area of participatory communication.
Fluency in English and I-Kiribati required. Knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
Drive for results and good communication and working with people skills is required.
Knowledge of inter-disciplinary approaches in programme development.
Knowledge of and experience working in and with disasters.
Strong knowledge and skills in using standard MS Office programmes is required. Additional skills in using graphics, statistical and video and photo software are considered an asset.
