One United Nations
A third major step forward concerned the One Fund, One Programme in Kiribati, between the Government of Kiribati, Government of Australia and the United Nations. UNICEF contributed to the development of this programme. It is hoped that the One Fund will allow better harmonisation and coordination of UN-supported activities, increase alignment between the UN and national systems, and reduce transaction costs between the three partners for the benefit of particularly children and women in Kiribati. Further UN collaborative relationships specifically between UNICEF, UNDP and UNFPA to achieve results for children were initiated through the establishment of a joint presence in seven countries – Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Kiribati, Nauru, Palau, Republic of Marshall Islands (RMI), Tuvalu and Vanuatu. This initiative was formed in response to the demands of the above-mentioned countries.
