About UNICEF Oman
Partnership for Progress
The year 1971 marked the beginning of UNICEF’s work in Oman with the signing of a Basic Agreement to work in partnership with the Government through the UNICEF Gulf Area Office, then located in Abu Dhabi, to help improve health and social services for children and women. Co-operation was strengthened in 1982 when a UNICEF office was opened in Muscat, becoming a full country office in 1987.
The nature of this partnership has been evolving steadily over the years as new challenges are perceived and new opportunities for moving forward are identified.
