Launch of the child friendly version of CRC booklet "I know my rights"Muscat, 8 October 2012: UNICEF's mandate requires it to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help them in meeting their basic needs and to reaching their full potential.
As a major step towards achieving this, UNICEF Oman and the Ministry of Education with support from Al Yousef Group LLC (AYG) launched child-friendly versions of the booklets on the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) enttled "I know my rights".
The aim of these booklets is to promote child rights amongst grades -4 age group to raise their level of awareness on the importance of knowing and understanding their basic rights. This will undoubtfully highlight the Sultanate's commitment to uphold the rights and respect of its children, appreciate its youth and understand the benefits of educating them on their entitlements and rights as an asset for the future of the country.
The materials are comprised of activity books for school children incorporating messages from the CRC. This is deemed to be a major achievement for UNICEF and the Government of Oman in promoting CRC among children and highlighting the importance of knowing their rights.
The booklets were pretested in Muscat at two schools using specially designed evaluation forms.
