Carol Bellamy to participate in web chat

Tuesday, 21 July 1998: UNICEF Executive Director Carol Bellamy, one of the foremost experts in the world on women's and children's issues, will take part in a worldwide Internet chat on Ladies' Home Journal Online (www.LHJ.com) on Monday, July 27 at 10:30 a.m., eastern time. Ms. Bellamy, who is part of a feature in the August issue of Ladies' Home Journal entitled "Women of the World," will answer questions about the problems and issues facing women and children today. She will have just returned from Sudan, where she visited UNICEF projects for malnourished children.

"Carol Bellamy has been, and continues to be, one of the key players in improving living and working conditions for women and children worldwide," says Myrna Blyth, Editor-in-Chief and Publishing Director of Ladies' Home Journal. "We are excited and honored that Ms. Bellamy is participating in a live chat on our Web site. It presents a unique opportunity for people around the world to discuss important matters facing women and children with one of the foremost authorities on the subject."

During Ms. Bellamy's distinguished career, she served four years in the New York State Senate (1973-77), was the first woman president of the New York City Council (1978-85), was the managing director in the Public Finance Department at Bear Stearns & Company, and served as the director of the Peace Corps from 1993-1995, among various other appointments and positions.

Internet users can join the chat on July 27 at 10:30 am by going to www.lhj.com and following the log-on instructions. Or, to save time, they can sign up to get their user name and password the week before the chat.

LHJ Online is Ladies' Home Journal's interactive Web site. As one of the oldest, most respected women's service magazines in the country, Ladies' Home Journal has always focused on issues of crucial importance to women since its first issue in December 1883. Ladies' Home Journal, with a readership of nearly 16 million, is part of Meredith Corporation's publishing group.
