  • Roger Moore (actor and former James Bond), UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador
  • Tom Wright,Vice President - Americas, Cathay Pacific Airways
  • Kul Gautam, Deputy Executive Director, UNICEF

What:

UNICEF will present Cathay Pacific with the 'Leadership for Children' Award, to recognize the airline's enormous contribution in raising almost US$ 5 million on behalf of UNICEF as part of its 'Change for Good' programme. Cathay Pacific will hand over its latest donation of US$ 673,000.

A drinks reception will follow.

When: Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at 4.30 p.m.

Where: UNICEF House, Maurice Pate Conference Room, 13th Floor,
3 UN Plaza, New York, NY 10017 ( 44th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue)

Why: Since Cathay Pacific joined UNICEF's 'Change for Good' programme in 1991, the airline has raised close to US$ 5 million by encouraging millions of passengers to donate their leftover foreign coins and bills to UNICEF. The money helps UNICEF provide children in China and other places throughout the world with basic social services, education and protection from violence and abuse.

Leon Lai, one of Hong Kong's most popular stars, has supported Cathay Pacific's 'Change for Good' campaign since 1994. Video announcements featuring Leon Lai and Roger Moore that encourage travellers to make donations are regularly broadcast on Cathay Pacific flights. The short spots have been a key factor in the success of the fundraising campaign. UNICEF relies entirely on voluntary contributions to fund its programmes and deeply appreciates the on-going support it receives from Cathay Pacific.
