Special International Emmy Awards for
Children's Rights on Monday
WHO: International Council of the National Academy of Television
Arts and Sciences and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Roger Moore
WHAT: Announcement of the winners of two special International
Emmy Awards that recognise broadcasters' support for children's rights.
AWARD ONE: Roger Moore will present a one-time award recognizing
the best campaign in support of children's rights. Competing among
over 30 broadcasters worldwide are four finalists: Georgia (TBC TV
Studio); Kenya (ACE Communications, Ltd.); The Philippines (Eletromedia);
and the United Kingdom (BBC1- Newsround).
AWARD TWO: The annual International Emmy to recognise best
contribution to the International Children's Day of Broadcasting.
The finalists - Brazil (TVCultura); Colombia (Canal Capital); Lebanon
(TeleLumiere); Namibia (Namibian Broadcasting Corporation) - were
part of a global alliance of broadcasters promoting children's participation
in the broadcasting media.
WHEN: 19 November 2001
WHERE: 29th International Emmy Awards Gala, New York City
WHY: A special one-time award was created to recognise the
best international television campaign that promotes the Say YES for
Children Campaign. 'Say YES for Children' is a massive international
campaign to encourage people to pledge their support for key actions
needed to improve the lives and well-being of children everywhere.
More than 40 million pledges will be presented to world leaders at
the United Nations Special Session on Children in May.
The International Council/UNICEF award was created in 1994 by the International
Council of NATAS. Its purposes is to highlight the unique programming
produced by broadcasters for the International Children's Day of Broadcasting,
celebrated annually on the second Sunday of December. ICDB gives children
and young people a chance to express themselves by producing, presenting
and reporting for television and radio shows around the world.
