National Sanitation Action Week 2010

Let’s join hands for sanitation in Nepal!

National Sanitation Action Week (NSAW) started in Nepal as a national level campaign in 2000 with a focus on advocacy and awareness on hygiene and sanitation. Since it first started, the week has seen remarkable achievements in the past to promote toilets, gaining political commitments for action and introducing innovative and creative activities.  Now, it is launched annually, promoting toilet use and investment along with hand washing with soap.  These activities are run every year at national, district and local level involving schools, communities, NGOs, CBOs, politicians, government bodies, media and individuals. Activities include mass media campaigns, mobilization of students, mother's group, CBOs, front line workers for promotional action, construction of toilet and sanitation units and declaration of Open Defecation Free (ODF) situation as well as the promotion of hand washing with soap activities.

This year promises to be another successful year for the promotion of sanitation and hygiene in Nepal. If you would like to get involved, talk to your school, local bodies, friends, family or work colleagues and plan a campaign in your local area to inspire and promote toilets and hand washing with soap.
