31 January 2011, Kathmandu – Minister for labour and Transportation, Ms. Sarita Giri awarded and congratulated 15 journalists – amidst an event at Nepalgunj, a mid-west region - for their dedicated work in raising children and women's issues through various media. The similar event was organized separately in Biratnagar, eastern Nepal earlier this month. These journalists are a part of UNICEF-supported training programme implemented through Nepal Press Institute (NPI), which is intended to encourage the media persons to report beyond the issues that the mainstream Nepali media concentrates – mainly politics.

As an incentive, NPI awarded cameras to the journalists who have been writing continuously on children's and women's issues and three laptops to the best performing journalists.
