UNICEF Executive Director, Mr. Anthony Lake, has begun a visit to Nepal

Kathmandu, 11 January 2011: UNICEF Executive Director, Mr. Anthony Lake, arrived in Nepal today at the start of a two-day mission. He was greeted by the Regional Director of UNICEF, Mr Dan Toole and the UNICEF Nepal Representative, Ms Hanaa Singer.

Mr. Lake met with the United Nations Resident Coordinator and the Heads of the UN agencies in Nepal soon after his arrival. His agenda includes visits to several UNICEF-supported programmes where he will meet many children and community organisations working in a range of fields, including the Out-of-school education programme for children, and members of the Female Community Health Volunteer network.

Mr. Lake will meet the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance and the Vice-Chair of the National Planning Commission and the Secretary General of SAARC.

Further information on his mission will be forthcoming on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th January.
