Sports for Development
Why sport and development?
UNICEF’s Sport for Development (S4D) work is rooted in its commitment to ensure every child’s right to play and recreation, as per Article 31 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Children are naturally attracted to sports and play hence S4D activities can serve as a powerful engine to improving children’s lives. Sport activities contribute to healthy child development, build self-esteem and life skills, foster peace and tolerance and teach important life lessons about respect, cooperation and leadership. In Namibia S4D is used in particular to impart information and skills around HIV prevention, health and healthy lifestyle choices to children..
