The overall mission of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is to play a leading role in advocating for the protection of the rights of children, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential.

In dealing with this fundamental issue, UNICEF Namibia works with the Government of the Republic of Namibia (GRN) – chiefly the Namibian Parliament and line Ministries – the private sector, civil society, media, academia, development partners, communities, children and young people and other UN agencies to:

  • Reduce risk and vulnerability to HIV and AIDS among children and adolescents
  • Reduce neonatal, infant, child and maternal mortality
  • Reduce paediatric HIV infections
  • Sustain net enrolment and improve the quality and relevance of learning in primary education
  • Reduce child  poverty through the promotion of a comprehensive and universal social protection system strengthen access to quality services in health, nutrition, sanitation, education
  • Protection for all vulnerable children and especially those affected by HIV/AIDS 

Our collaboration with the government and other partners is managed across the following four main programme areas:

1. Health and Nutrition

2. Education and Gender Equality

3. Child Protection and Social Protection

4. Social Policy Analysis, Research and Communication
