Early Childhood Education training workshop opening in Yangon

Yangon, 05 November 2004 – On Tuesday, November 9th a two-week training workshop for child educators will open in Yangon.  The workshop, sponsored by Israel’s Center for International Cooperation (MASHAV) in cooperation with UNICEF, and with the support of the Ministry of Education, will focus on methods of enhancing knowledge and skills about early childhood development for children age 3-8.

This is the fourth year that MASHAV, UNICEF and the Ministry of Education have joined together to explore ways of enhancing early childhood education in Myanmar.

Participants at the workshop will include teachers, other educators and curriculum development professionals, early childhood development (ECD) practitioners from the Department of Social Welfare, and ECD resource persons from non-governmental organizations.

The workshop, facilitated by two early childhood education specialists from Israel, will help educators develop learning activities that promote thinking skills, and introduce interactive teaching methods that enhance children’s learning.

“The early years of a child’s life have a profound effect on their overall development, and hold the key to them realizing their full potential,” said UNICEF Representative Carroll Long, before the workshop.  “A quality pre-school education is an important part of giving children the very best start in life.”

“This workshop is just one way that UNICEF works with partners like MASHAV to enhance Myanmar children’s development during the early years of life.”
