Fund launched to support journalism focused on children in 2011
MAPUTO, Mozambique, 16 August 2011 - On Friday August 12, 2011, at the School of Communication and Arts (ECA) of Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM), the Child-friendly Media Network, better known by its acronym in Portuguese, RECAC, launched the annual round of a fund to support journalism focused on children.
The fund, created by MISA-Mozambique in partnership with UNICEF in 2007, aims to encourage investigative journalism about children and children's rights, and serves as a means to promote reporting from remote and difficult to reach areas of the country.
The fund is one of the incentives that RECAC offers its members, enabling selected journalists to travel throughout the country to cover issues and produce reports. Reporters from the print, radio or TV media may apply by filling out a form that is available from the MISA office in Maputo or through MISA's provincial focal points.
The proposals for 2011 must be connected to the extractive industries, the environment, climate change, education and health, and all proposals must be submitted by the 12th of September 2011.
