Cecília Samuel Dimande is a fifteen year old girl who was chosen to represent the children and youth of Mozambique as part of the official Mozambican delegation at Rio+20.

MOZAMBIQUE, Maputo, 20 June 2012 – Cecília Dimande is a participant in the Child-to-Child media network in Mozambique and young producer of radio programs. She is travelling to the Rio+20 conference as a representative of Mozambican children and youth. “I arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Monday, June 18. My first impressions were that this opportunity to attend the Rio+20 UN Summit was great! I have enjoyed the city very much. It is a great honor for me to participate in this world event as the only Mozambique child representing the media as a C2C radio programme producer. It is also exciting to be close to Government officials and many other organizations from Mozambique,” she said.

Cecília lives in Maputo and has produced programming for the Child-to-Child media network since the age of eleven. Travelling to the Rio+20 summit has illuminated for her the issues of sustainability and climate change, and the interconnectivity of her life with children across the world. “For me, it is an interesting experience visiting the American continent and participating in a summit that aims to discuss our future as a planet. This is our future, in which we, the children of today, will become the parents, uncles, doctors, engineers and teachers of tomorrow. I am glad that our fathers, uncles and grandpas are concerned with what will happen to the world tomorrow. I think it is extremely important to disseminate and promote information about the conference. Let’s think about taking care of the green, so that we can breathe clean air, free from diseases. A beautiful garden world!”
