MICOA calls meeting to discuss strategy document on climate change
MAPUTO, Mozambique, 8 May 2012 - Yesterday and today, the Mozambican Ministry of the Environment (MICOA) convened staff from several Government ministries and agencies, UN agencies and Civil Society Organizations to review and discuss a new strategy document on climate change. The second, but equally important objective of the meeting was to conduct a critical analysis of the Rio+ 20 report on the green economy. Rio+ 20, which will take place in June this year, is a term used to describe the follow up event to the Earth Summit which took place in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. Participants in the meeting were divided into small working groups where the various parts of the strategy document were analyzed and discussed. The groups then proposed amendments and improvements to the document in a participatory manner. The strategy document touches upon all development sectors and areas and will serve as a guide for environmental initiatives in Mozambique in the years ahead. The process is supported by UNICEF and other agencies. For more information, please contact Arild Drivdal, UNICEF Mozambique, tel.
