UNICEF Regional Director visits Azerbaijan

Three-day trip tp focus on results for children

BAKU, May 10, 2010 – Results for children in the areas of health, education and protection will be the subjects of a visit by the UNICEF Regional Director for Central and Eastern Europe/Commonwealth of Independent States, Mr. Steven Allen. The three-day visit starts on May 10.

During his trip, Mr. Allen is expected to meet senior Government officials – including the Deputy Prime Minister, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Health, Social Protection, Education, Youth and Sports, the President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the First Lady Ms. Mehriban Aliyeva, the Chairman of the Parliament and representatives of civil society, the international development community and the United Nations.

During his meetings, Mr. Allen will get better acquainted with the challenges Azerbaijani children face and the work implemented by the Government of Azerbaijan and UNICEF to help them and as part of the efforts to create “Azerbaijan Fully Fit for Children”.

Prior to his current assignment, Mr. Steven Allen served as Director, Division of Human Resources in UNICEF New York Headquarters . Mr. Allen is a national of the United Kingdom.
