“It’s about ability” – awareness raising campaign on inclusion of children with disabilities by UNICEF, Government of Montenegro, EU Delegation to Montenegro, Associations of parents of children with disabilities and other partners
PODGORICA, NOVEMBER 8, 2010 – Up to 7,500 children involved in inclusive education in 5 primary schools in Podgorica will have an opportunity to play in soft play areas equipped to stimulate child's development thanks to the donation of Podgoricka banka Societe Generale Group to the campaign „It's About Ability“.
For the first time in Montenegro, children with and without disabilities will have a chance to play together in soft play areas inside five primary schools in Podgorica. They are equipped to stimulate children's overall cognitive, emotional, physical and social development. As a result, during the time that children spend in schools every day, they will have more opportunities to acquire new skills and make new friends through play in a stimulative environment.
“With this donation Podgoricka banka Societe Generale Group is indicating its strong support to the ongoing “It’s About Ability” campaign and in particular inclusive education, which makes it possible for Montenegro’s children with disabilities to learn alongside their peers. Supporting inclusion from the early years, including through play and social interaction is an important way to ensure sustainability and give every child the best possible chance to develop to his or her full potential.” says the Main Executive Director of Podgoricka banka Societe Generale Group Ms Branka Pavlovic.
Mr Slavoljub Stijepovic, Minister of Education, welcomes the donation by Podgoricka banka Societe Generale Group and emphasizes the significance of having specially equipped soft play areas in Podgorica’s schools. „Children learn well and develop new skills through many means and play is without a doubt one of the most significant ones. Through play children develop ability to learn and function in a social environment, strengthen emotional aspects of the personality and self-fulfill through physical activities. Thanks to the donation by Podgoricka banka Societe Generale Group, soft play areas in five inclusive primary schools will provide Podgorica’s children with and without disabilities with an opportunity to deepen their friendships and develop the necessary life skills while playing together in an environment with equipment and materials that promote every child’s developmental growth.”
According to UNICEF Montenegro Representative Noala Skinner, the wide coalition of partners who launched the „It's about ability“, consisting of the government, civil sector, media and international community, has grown during the campaign to include Montenegro's private sector as well. „Throughout the campaign, we have been inviting everyone to „Join Us!“ We are delighted to have a constantly increasing number of decision-makers, opinion-leaders, citizens and companies to support the campaign and the building of an inclusive society in Montenegro. Our aim is to create an unstoppable momentum in support of lasting inclusion of children with disabilities in Montenegro's society. I am very pleased to see Podgoricka banka Societe Generale Group become one of our strategic partners from the private sector. I hope that more will follow.“ says UNICEF Montenegro Representative Noala Skinner. She announced plans to have meetings with the representatives of Montenegro's private sector in December in order to have more companies join the coalition that supports inclusion of children with disabilities into the society through direct and concrete support.
