The educational system in the Republic of Moldova has undergone many reforms which had the praiseworthy goal of modernising and democratising learning, to create conditions which affirm the potential of every child regardless of the material state of the family, the living environment, ethnic background, mother tongue, or the religious choices of the parents.
Access to medical services has improved noticeably since 2005. Children, pregnant women, and mothers with seven or more children are now assured of free medical services. Children up to five years of age receive free medication, and pregnant women receive iron and folic acid supplements.
Good nutrition remains the base of the development of a healthy and intelligent child, strengthening the immune system and playing an important role in his intellectual development. Bad or imbalanced nutrition can lead to irreversible damage to the physical and mental health of a child as well as of a nation, leading to significant losses in work productivity and additional expenses for health care.
