UNCIEF advocates for children’s constitutional rights with the Libyan Constitutional Drafting Committee

TUNIS, Tunisia, 3 March 2015 – UNICEF Special Representative in Libya, Dr. Ghassan Khalil, submitted a concept note on Incorporating Child Rights in the new Libyan Constitution to Dr. Ali Tarhouni, Chairperson of Libya's Constitutional Drafting Assembly during a meeting in Tunis, Tunisia.

Dr. Tarhouni welcomed UNICEF’s initiative and invited the Chairperson and members of the Freedoms, Rights and Transitional Measures Committee for a deeper discussion on the Concept Note. Dr. Albadry Alshareef (Head of the Committee), Dr. Zeinab Alzaeidi and Mr. Gamal Alghazal (members) attended the meeting and discussed means of cooperation with UNICEF in relation to children’s constitutional rights in Libya.

The CDA will distribute UNICEF Concept Note to all the members of the CDA and it has been agreed to have further discussions in the coming period to make sure that children’s rights are well incorporated in the new constitution of Libya.
