Mark Levengood, UNICEF Sweden Goodwill Ambassador, meets with Palestinian children in the Bedouin community of Jinba, in Fire Zone 918 in the South Hebron Hills, on 20 August 2013.

In September, Mark Levengood, UNICEF Sweden Goodwill Ambassador, met with Palestinian children. After crossing checkpoints with teenagers in the Old City of Hebron, he held a 20-day old baby boy, born in the cave home of a Bedouin family in the desert. In Gaza, where 95% of the aquifer is polluted, Levengood visited one of the desalination plants built by UNICEF, and spoke with children receiving psychosocial counseling in the aftermath of the November violence. “I saw children exposed to violence, but all were brave and inspiring. I told them that if they work hard they will achieve their dreams. They can trust UNICEF to make it happen,” Levengood said.
