Summer temperatures, overcrowding and worsening hygiene threaten the wellbeing of four million children affected by the conflict in Syria. In response, UNICEF has accelerated efforts to provide sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene services.

Humanitarian crises, such as the conflict in Syria, pose particular risks for children with disabilities. These photos of Syrian children living as refugees in Jordan, Turkey and Iraq, show the challenges they face, but also their inspiring resilience.



Hippo-therapy in Sudan
On May 30, UNICEF launches The State of the World's Children report 2013, focusing this year on children with disabilities. In Sudan an NGO called Miracles-Sudan organizes horseback riding sessions for children with disabilities, with UNICEF support.
