MOSCOW, 1 September 2006 -On the second anniversary of the Beslan tragedy, commemorative events are taking place in Beslan and across North Ossetia. Yesterday, UNICEF held an event entitled ‘Thank You to All Who Helped Beslan to Live through Grief’. The aim was to give children and families affected by the crisis the chance to express their gratitude to those who have helped them over the last two years.

AMMAN/BEIRUT, 28 July 2006 – Today a Royal Jordanian military aircraft arrived in Beirut at 13:20 with UNICEF humanitarian supplies. The flight carried 250 boxes of family water kits sufficient for 2,500 families and over 500,000 water purification tablets. It also carried 32 boxes of medical supplies for WHO, including urgently needed insulin.
UNICEF statement on Lebanon
TAMALE, GHANA 26 July 2006 – UNICEF announced today the arrival of the first convoy of humanitarian aid for children in Tyre, southern Lebanon, the hardest hit part of the country. The convoy consists of 40 tonnes of humanitarian supplies aimed at the tens of thousands children displaced due to the escalating violence in that country. UNICEF’s supplies include water purification tablets, soap and other hygiene necessities.

Vaccines and logistical support to boost services in Zimbabwe
HARARE, 23 October 2003 - The British Department for International Development (DFID) pledged 1.88 million pounds to UNICEF Zimbabwe today to secure urgently needed vaccines and logistical support for the country’s Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) from January to June 2004. The funding comes at a time when the health system, once one of the best in the region, is deteriorating as the combination of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, the economic crisis and the severe food shortages have left drugs and health workers in short supply and unable to cope with growing needs.

Back to school program underway in Liberia to reach 750,000 children
MONROVIA, 23 October 2003 – Distribution of the first batch of 4,662 School-in-the-box kits is set to begin today for 372,960 Liberian children, initially among six counties: Montserrado, Bomi, Bong, Margibi, Grand Bassa and Margibi. The Back to School supplies, valued at US$1.3M, are being transported from the Free Port of Monrovia to Careysburg and Todee children.
UNICEF calls on donors for emergency aid for Algeria's earthquake victims
