DAVOS: MDG Advocates Join UN SG Ban Ki-moon and Global Leaders on urgent need to empower adolescent girls

At the World Economic Forum, leaders including UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson, President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Prime Minister Erna Solberg of Norway, Dho Young-shim, Philippe Dousty-Blassy and Jeffrey Sachs join Tina Brown, Kathy Calvin and global girl champions in intergenerational dialogue to highlight the rights of girls in final 707 days of Millennium Development Goals

the UN Secretary-General will host an event at the World Economic Forum with leaders from the United Nations, business, government, and civil society to highlight the need to invest in the rights, health, and well-being of adolescent girls to accelerate progress on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The event will be recorded and streamed on http://www.ghdnews.com/events 90 minutes after the close of the event (approximately 4 p.m. local time).

Members of the Secretary-General’s MDG Advocacy Group will engage in a dialogue with adolescent girl champions Hannah Godefa, UNICEF National Ambassador for Ethiopia, and Sumaya Saluja, Youth Advocacy Group, Global Education First Initiative, to discuss how empowering adolescent girls benefits families, communities, and countries and call for making girls a priority in the global agenda.

The event will also feature remarks by UNICEF Executive Director, Anthony Lake; UN Deputy
Secretary-General, Jan Eliasson; UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova; UN Special Envoy for Global Education, Gordon Brown; Unilever CEO, Paul Polman, and Ericsson CEO, Hans Vestberg, among others.
