NEW YORK, 20 January 2010 - The earthquake that devastated parts of Haiti, on 12 January 2010, destroyed much of the country’s fragile infrastructure and left many Haitians in dire need of assistance.
UNICEF is working hard to provide urgent support to children, women and families many of whom are without shelter, water, or other basic necessities.
Working in concert with a range of partners, UNICEF’s first priorities are the provision of emergency water and sanitation, providing food, shelter, medical assistance and care and support for children who have become separated from their families and caregivers and providing emergency nutrition support for children (particularly those suffering from, or at risk of, malnutrition).
